Women Are Heroes

French artist JR pays tribute to the victimisation of women in his Women Are Heroes series, part of the 28 Millimètres project (named for the lens used to shoot the signature close-up portraits). Spanning seven countries, JR celebrates the strength of women fighting to survive in the harshest environments and forces the outside world to recognise the human impact of poverty. In some cases his art directly improves their lives- his Kenyan portraits were made from water-resistant material and hung on the roof belonging to each woman pictured, thus providing them with extra protection during the heavy rain season.

If this doesn’t convince people of the legitimacy of street art, I don’t know what will.
