Combining art and biotechnology might seem obvious, but Aussie artist Deborah Kelly goes beyond aesthetics to explore the deeper metaphors and implications of contemporary biotechonologies. Her most recent series, The Miracles focuses on reproductive technologies reflected in religious imagery, it’s hilarious and sweetly moving. But I’m still stuck on 2011’s Beastliness, a hypercolour breakneck-speed animation representing a boundary-free, horizonless, full-of-possibility future. I’m sure some people were nervous after seeing this, but for me it was simply awesome!
